Creating one’s own migrant narrative is an ongoing task that requires honing, silences and success stories in equal measure. The storytelling of moving academics have their own and specific rationales that are tied up with the conditions of the global knowledge
economy and very deep personal decisions around career planning. This paper will look
at a set of narratives and offer an ethnography based analysis how academic migrant
storytelling works.
The data is based on a long term interview project in five different countries including New Zealand.
